Tegucigalpa – Following complaints from citizens about a wave of traffic attacks in the city, the Anti-Maras and Gangs Police Department against Organized Crime (DIPAMPCO) launched operations on routes in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula.
In view of this alarming situation, DIPAMPCO along with the City Traffic Safety Unit (DSTU) has taken various intervention measures to prevent and deter crime.
DIPAMCO spokesman Mario Fu explained that prevention and dissuasion operations are being carried out in the main traffic corridors in the capital and the north of the country. These operations are supported by teams from the National Police and the Land Transport Institute.
Fu explained that based on preliminary investigations, it has been proven that some drivers and receivers on the transport routes may have links with the criminal gangs that carried out the attacks.
He assured that in response, intelligence work was underway to identify and nab these individuals.
“The operation has begun and the first captures are expected in the coming days. We invite the Honduran public to report through line 143 or in person at the National Police or DIPAMPCO stations. Their cooperation is essential to the effectiveness of the arrest operation, because in the absence of complaints, detainees can regain their freedom, raising questions about the work of the police. The police are doing their job, but we need the support and cooperation of citizens,” Fu stressed.
He concluded that DIPAMPCO’s intervention was not only aimed at reducing attacks but also at restoring citizens’ confidence in public transportation and guaranteeing safe travel in the country’s major cities. pound
