#Expo2024: 40 minutes to cook beans for 55 Frw

At this year's show, 55Frw has jars that can hide beans for 40 minutes.

One exhibitor we found cooking meat with a machine (Isafuriya) said that in less than 40 minutes, the beans were hidden, that one kilowatt-hour of electricity cost 250 Rwandan francs and that it took more than three hours (180 minutes).

Highlighting the German-made equipment, Shema Albert said the beans were cooked for 40 minutes, meaning the machine used no more than 55 reais of electricity to cook the beans.

“If you knew that, you wouldn’t have to pay for coal or gas anymore because they create smoke and pollution, so you need a big workplace (kitchen) where you can cook in the living room and the food burns quickly,” Shema said.

It is a pan (machine) that indicates when anything cooked is ready to boil so that when it reaches the pot it stops so that the food does not burn and it is sold for 120,000 Rwanda rings.

Shema and his colleagues also have machines that can cut vegetables and fruits, press potatoes or bananas, and grind different foods before cooking, using no more than 20Frw of electricity.

There are also covered pans over 60,000 Frw where the cooks put different kinds of food, raw in the upper chamber and fried in the lower chamber, these pans mainly use air to hide the food and then put it on the fire or weigh it by placing coals on the palm of your hand.

Access to fuel is one of the most pressing issues for Rwandan families, as forests that produce wood and charcoal are shrinking, causing air and gas pollution, and water from wells is dwindling as the mountains become bare.

Expo 2024 also includes footwear and apparel, footwear, technology, architecture, restaurants, toys and a children’s playground.

There are also financial, telecommunications, public and private institutions responsible for providing various services to provide relief to people who are bankrupt and want to solve their problems.

Foreigners who attended the exhibition told Kigali Today that they would not miss it because of the peace and security that Rwanda has established over the past 30 years.

Opening Expo 2024 on Monday, July 30, 2024, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr. Jean Chrysostome Ngabitsinze, welcomed the exhibitors, saying: “We really want foreigners to come in large numbers and be valued because you bring money here from abroad and trading it is a very important thing.”

Jeanne-Françoise Mubiligi, director of the Rwanda Private Sector Federation (PSF), said the exhibition was intended to promote what Rwanda was doing, but it was also an opportunity for exhibitors to show how their work was changing.

This year, Expo2024 has a total of 448 exhibitors, including 329 from Rwanda and 119 from abroad, and currently has 5,000 buyers or visitors attending every day.
