The Cook Islands Rugby Union Rarotonga Club 15-year-old boys’ final is set to be a “thrilling contest”.
Defending champions Tupapa Panthers will take on Avatiu Nikao Eels at Teimurimotia Park this Saturday.
According to CIRU Development Manager Ben Koteka, this final will be a thrilling contest.
“While it’s hard to say who will win or lose, the most disciplined team on the day, who can quickly adapt to the tempo of the game and remain disciplined throughout the 80 minutes of play, both with and without the ball, will ultimately win!”
Kotka said both teams will rely on their key players to lead the challenge.
For the Eels, who have a brave group of forwards, a hard-working loose forward line led by captain Li Ponini and supported by Tamanui Nicholas, Josh Motu and Adyn Kapi will be key.
“Strong midfield defenders Villami-Biel Temo and Tamatoa Nicolas have been outstanding all year.”
Kotka said for the Panthers, the foundation of their busy forward line-up was 80-minute front rowers Davey Mato, Lua Tua and Kana Nga.
He said the trio would look to build up a set-piece advantage to benefit their powerful midfielders Tua Ravula and Al Momoisea.
“This much-anticipated midfield clash will certainly determine the direction of the game.”
The two teams met in last year’s final, when the Panthers beat the Eels 13-12 by 79 points.day Minutes to try.
The two town neighbours have faced off twice this year, with the Eels winning the first game 16-13 and the Panthers winning the second 19-17.
“We are waiting for you at Teimurimotia Park – Titikaveka, come and join us in the fun starting at 12pm to see who will be crowned the 2024 Raro Club 15s Champions. Prizes will be awarded after each game.”
