Event: Explore USGS Southeast Careers 2024

This event is designed to give students and early career professionals an introduction to USGS science and a chance to meet staff from three different USGS scientific disciplines. During our Human Resources (HR) session, you will have the opportunity to learn how to get a career with the USGS, and USGS HR staff will show you how to navigate USAJobs and provide tips on how to build a federal resume and submit an application.

Eight USGS centers will host this virtual event showcasing the various scientific career paths within the USGS. You’ll learn about the USGS mission, philosophy, and research in the Southeast, then have the opportunity to speak with USGS staff and scientists during three themed panel discussions.

inside Scientific support During the panel discussion, USGS staff members specializing in information technology, science communication, data management, and stewardship will discuss these key disciplines and how they contribute to the success of USGS science, as well as how they pursued and fulfilled their careers at the USGS.

inside technical skills At the conference, attendees will interact with staff from various specialties such as laboratories, ocean operations, scientific diving, field operations, and programming—all areas that contribute to USGS science and enhance its reputation.

During this period Research At the conference, expert scientists in the fields of biology and ecosystems, coastal and marine hazards and resources, and water resources will discuss their academic backgrounds, scientific experience, current research, and career paths.

While the event focuses on science and careers in the Southeast, the event is open to students and early career scientists and professionals anywhere in the United States, including the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
