Evacuees say the repatriation of people displaced from border areas of Tigray and Amhara regions, which have staked claims in northern Ethiopia following the war, is not proceeding as per schedule.

The commentators who told VOA that they were displaced from the Tselemti region recalled that they had planned to return by May 30, but they said that since they have not returned so far, coupled with the arrival of refugees, their problems may become worse during the winter.

The Tigray regional interim government and the federal government’s communications services office failed to respond to the matter.

However, the Northwest Governor of the region, Mr. Kailali Hagazi, said the failure of federal security forces to dismantle the administrative and security structures established after the war in the Tselemj region was the reason why the evacuees did not return on time.
