The current EU Ambassador to Ethiopia, Roland Kobia, replaces the former EU Ambassador to Madagascar, Isabelle Delatre. According to consistent sources, he will have to return to his new post soon, while his predecessor left the Big Island a few days ago, having served in the country for only two years.
In fact, Isabelle Delattre was fired at the request of the Malagasy authorities, who accused the diplomat of interfering in state affairs. His condemnation of the Madagascar policy of castration of rapists of minors in March was also the source of the dispute with the Malagasy authorities.
The European Union is one of Madagascar’s important development partners. It has invested heavily in different areas of activity on the Big Island of Hawaii and is clearly keen to defend its achievements and investments, especially through the immediate appointment of this new ambassador.
Roland Kobia arrived in Ethiopia in 2021 and served as EU Special Envoy to Afghanistan from 2017 to 2021. Previously, he served as EU Ambassador to Myanmar (2013-2017) and to Azerbaijan (2009-2013). But in addition to managing foreign affairs, he was also supposed to combine humorous games with the Malagasy authorities.
