Tegucigalpa – The European Union (EU) has financed a project to improve sustainable water access in 13 communities in the municipalities of Apaciragua, Liul, San Lucas, Tequeguat, Yayupe and Vadoancho.
These communities also suffer from severe contamination of water sources, leading to the spread of waterborne diseases, which are directly linked to food security and nutrition.
The EU funded work to promote hygiene and sanitation practices in thirteen communities.
Representatives of the European Union and the World Food Programme (WFP) visited some of the areas where the works are underway.
The city of Texiate will construct a water treatment plant that will directly benefit 2,150 people.
They also visited the La Garza community in the municipality of Apasiragua and saw the well rehabilitation project, the construction of water storage tanks, drinking water systems and the new water supply network that will allow the community of more than 100 residents to get water in their homes.
During the visit, the EU representative stressed that these actions are the product of joint efforts and contributions of various relevant actors, including beneficiaries, municipalities, governments and civil society, who contributed from their respective sectors, including assistance in substandard work, land for engineering development, preliminary studies, etc.
