Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan meets with Ethiopian and Somali foreign ministers
Ethiopian and Somali delegations began a new round of reconciliation talks on Monday under the mediation of Türkiye.
Diplomatic sources said officials from both countries came to the Turkish capital Ankara as part of a series of ongoing talks between the two countries.
The sources said both sides were at the Turkish Foreign Ministry but no face-to-face talks took place, stressing that Turkish officials were conducting “shuttle diplomacy” coordinated by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
The two sides are holding separate meetings to seek a settlement within a common framework as part of a “long process”, the sources said.
Earlier on Monday, Fidan met separately with the foreign ministers of Ethiopia and Somalia in Ankara.
Relations between Ethiopia and Somalia have further deteriorated since the January 1 agreement between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland.
Türkiye has been working to ease tensions between the two countries in the Horn of Africa.
