The Solomon Islands Water Authority provides water supply and sanitation services to the community of Honiara and water supply services to Auki, Noro and Tulagi.
As a leading water company, Solomon Water has prepared and started construction of several large infrastructure investment projects in line with its 30-year strategic plan. Our strategic plan kick-starts an infrastructure development program for the water and sanitation sectors valued at more than S$3.1 billion.
The Solomon Water Company’s “Sewerage Project – Fisheries to Ranadi Roundabout Project”, worth more than SDG 80 million, is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in March 2025.
The Fisheries to Ranadi Roundabout sewer project is one of several key capital investments under our Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Programme (UWSSSP).
Once completed, the project will provide a sewer connection for domestic and commercial customers from the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources to Ranadi, providing long-term sanitation services and benefits to the Honiara community.
A further aim of the project is to enhance wastewater management in Honiara by increasing the efficiency and capacity of the sewer system.
Once completed, it will help prevent sewer overflows and reduce the risk of environmental pollution, thereby better protecting local water sources and promoting public health.
The upgraded sewer system will also accommodate the city’s growth, supporting future residential, commercial and industrial development.
The project included civil engineering, excavation and sheet piling works to install 1.2 km of large diameter (700 mm) sewer pipe and associated manholes up to 6 m in depth.
Despite significant progress, with an estimated completion date of late March 2025, the project has encountered some challenges, including delays due to the Pacific Games, which forced the entire project to be stopped for 11 weeks to backfill trenches and temporarily repave the road.

The work was further delayed by the difficulty of excavation due to the unusually hard rock, and by the frequent heavy rains that caused flooding in the trenches.
These factors have slowed down progress on civil engineering, but we remain committed to completing the project in the shortest possible time.
To ensure efficient and safe completion of the works, the project has been planned and divided into five construction phases:
The first phase of the project, from the Ranadi roundabout to the entrance of the ANZ Building, is expected to be completed in December 2024;
The second stage of the project will be handed over from ANZ Tower to Solo Gas and is expected to be completed by the end of August 2024;
The third phase of the project, from Solo Gas to Panatina Plaza, is expected to be completed in December 2024;
The fourth phase of the project, from Panatina Plaza to the SINU entrance, is expected to be completed in April 2025;
The fifth phase of the project from the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources to Panadina Square was recently completed.
Solomon Water acknowledged that the works along the main road had caused inconvenience to motorists and the public.
Solomon Water is continually monitoring, reviewing and updating its safety, traffic and construction management plans and activities to ensure that impacts on road users, pedestrians and the public are minimised while works continue safely.
