June 6, 2024 – Environmentalist Erik Quiroga reports that around the world, extreme pollution from greenhouse gases such as nitrous oxide has led to the destruction of much of the ozone layer.
According to a detailed NASA report, Quiroga explained that nitrous oxide has become the biggest depletor of the ozone layer, more than carbon dioxide or methane.
These statements were made during the program “Even though you can’t see it” on radio station Fe y Alegría Noticias, in the framework of the commemorations of World Environment Day on June 5 this year, 51 years after that date was first established.

The environmentalist also mentioned that according to data from the World Meteorological Organization, last year was the warmest year in 10,000 years.
Furthermore, he reported that temperatures this year are expected to be the same as or even higher than last year.
This process, which was considered irreversible, has unfortunately led to Venezuela becoming the first country to lose glaciers due to climate change.
For Quiroga, the disappearance of Venezuela’s last glacier has not received enough attention, both nationally and internationally.
Deforestation
On the other hand, he stressed that deforestation is historically severe and that very high levels of such activity have been recorded over the past 22 years, with 25% of it occurring in humid forests in 2020, including the Páramo forests in the Los Andes region.
