The #EndBadGovernance Protest 2024 coalition in Prato, Jos, said it had suspended street protests for two days to allow for dialogue with relevant stakeholders.
The suspension was announced by Enoch Vilret, spokesman for the ruling coalition, during a briefing with journalists in Jos, the capital of Prato state, on Sunday, and said it would be effective from Sunday, August 4, to Tuesday, August 6.
Verret said the decision was taken in order to engage in dialogue with relevant authorities, as President Bola Tinubu said in a broadcast to the nation on Sunday.
He further stated that the League remains committed to its cause and hopes that this period will foster constructive discussions.
He said if the dialogue could not take place within the stipulated time, they would resume peaceful protests.
“However, we would like to clarify that we are not the organizers of this protest. Rather, we are the leaders of Plateau who stepped in to coordinate and ensure that the protest remains peaceful and orderly.
“Our main goal is to channel and support the voices of our fellow citizens in a responsible and constructive manner.
“We want to clearly dissociate ourselves from any protest group carrying Russian flags or any other flags other than the Nigerian flag.
“Such actions do not represent our movement and we urge security forces to arrest any individuals involved in such acts as they undermine the integrity of our cause.
“We are also aware that certain forces are opposed to the peaceful protests we have been holding over the past four days and are planning to incite looting and vandalism,” he said.
The spokesperson noted that the coalition strongly condemns such acts and calls on security forces to arrest anyone involved in such activities.
He added that the movement is committed to peace advocacy.
“We will not tolerate any form of violence and destruction,” he said.
Verrett called on Nigerians to continue to abide by the law and remain confident that Nigeria will be great again.
He stressed that the alliance’s commitment to positive change remains strong and they believe that through collective efforts and peaceful advocacy, they can achieve a better future for the country.
