Former US President Donald Trump has said he would be interested in appointing Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to a key position if he win Trump told Reuters in an interview after a campaign event in York, Pennsylvania, on Monday that he was considering Musk for a cabinet position or as an adviser.
“If Elon Musk wants to do that, I would appoint him to the position,” Trump told Reuters.
Elon Musk endorsed Trump’s proposal on his social media platform X and expressed his willingness to contribute: “I am willing to serve,” Musk posted.
It’s worth noting, however, that Trump’s favor toward Musk may be influenced by his views on policies affecting the electric vehicle industry. Specifically, Trump has criticized the $7,500 tax credit for new electric vehicles, a benefit that Tesla has profited from handsomely.
“Tax credits and tax incentives are generally not a good thing,” Trump said, suggesting those policies could change.
