A team of scientists from North Carolina State University and South Korea recentlytestWPED, an electric bandage, can accelerate the healing of chronic wounds. When the dressing is applied to the wound and moistened with a drop of water, it activates the flexible battery on the top, which accelerates keratinocytes by releasing a mild 1.5 volt current.
Each bandage costs about $1 and can last up to seven hours. In tests on diabetic mice, wounds treated with the electric bandage healed 30% faster than traditional bandages and killed bacteria to reduce infection. The paper was published in an academic journal.Scientific progress.
