National police spokesperson ACP Boniface Rutikanga told Kigali Today that security forces have arrived at the election site and equipment used in the election is well protected.
“Police have begun arriving in provinces and regions where elections will be held and equipment used in the elections will be properly managed,” he said.
Campaigns for the presidency and House of Representatives will end on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
The number of polling stations for the presidential and House of Representatives elections on July 14 and 15, 2024, will be 176 in the city of Kigali, 579 in the south, 597 in the west, 460 in the north, 621 in the east, and 158 in the diaspora, for a total of 2,591 polling stations.
ACP Rutikanga said security agencies will continue to maintain security until the election results are finalised.
“Just as security continued to be properly managed during the campaign of candidates for the Presidency and Vice Presidency of the Republic and during the elections, we will continue to ensure that Rwandans choose safe leaders,” he said.
For the first time, Rwandans outside Rwanda will hold elections for the President of the Republic and the Chamber of Deputies on the same day, July 14, and Rwandans inside Rwanda will hold elections on July 15-16, 2024.
On July 16, 2024, elections will be held for special categories of representatives, namely women, persons with disabilities and youth representatives.
9.5 million Rwandans aged 18 and over will vote in presidential and parliamentary elections.
For this election on July 15, polling places will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 9:00 p.m.
