Mexico City (process.com.mx). – After five days of blockade, the ejidatarios living in the city of Tlajupan, Puebla, released the state of the highway, the Puebla-Mexico Federal Highway, and a portion of the North Arch Bridge after several hours of dialogue with the authorities.
Puebla Interior Minister Javier Aquino said protesters and authorities reached an agreement at 3:30 a.m. Saturday to pay for the land they expropriated to build the road.
Rescuers then set up camp and cleared vehicular access for the dozens of trucks and cars that remained stranded.
According to the official, federal authorities will receive protesters and their representatives next Monday (the 12th) to follow up on their payment demands.
The protests began as residents demanded payment for land taken decades ago for the construction of a highway and for land in the Iztaccihuatl-Popocatepetl National Park Reserve.
