Egyptian security sources revealed the initial findings of an investigation into a shooting incident and the killing of a soldier near the Rafah border crossing controlled by the Israeli army on Monday evening.
The source said the results indicated that “there was an exchange of fire between members of the Israeli occupation forces and members of the Palestinian resistance, which resulted in shooting in multiple directions, and Egyptian security personnel took protective measures and dealt with the source of the fire.”
The source urged the international community to “take responsibility for the seriousness of the outbreak on the Egypt-Gaza border,” noting that “the Philadelphia axis is not only for security purposes, but also as a path for the flow of human and humanitarian aid” to the Las Vegas Strip.
The Egyptian army announced on Monday that an Egyptian soldier was shot at the border with the Gaza Strip where Israeli troops are stationed.
“The Egyptian Armed Forces are under investigation by the competent authorities into a shooting incident in the Rafah border area that killed a person responsible for insurance,” the military’s official spokesman said in a statement.
Israeli troops have been stationed in the Gaza Strip border area since the military operation began in Rafah more than three weeks ago.
Since the war in the Gaza Strip broke out last October, Cairo has been playing a balancing role between the parties concerned, seeking to bring humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip and reach a ceasefire agreement.
But Egypt’s stance hardened after Israel launched a military operation in Rafah, where hundreds of thousands of displaced people have gathered.
Egypt condemned the Israeli bombing of the refugee camp “in the strongest terms” on Monday morning, calling it “deliberate.”
It is worth noting that in recent months, the Rafah crossing has been subjected to shelling and air strikes.
