He made the comments in response to a letter from Mr Pride to New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters, who claimed his salary and contractual benefits had been stopped.

Responding to a letter from Mr Pride to New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters in which he claimed his salary and contractual benefits had been stopped, Prime Minister Rabuka said Mr Pride was entitled to his salary until he was removed from office.
On April 13, 2023, Mr. Pride was suspended following a complaint of misconduct.
The Secretary for Justice, Andrew Leung, clarified yesterday that the post of Commissioner of Police has been taken up.
He said the position would only become vacant if a court found misconduct.
If that happens, the job cannot be posted, he said.
Prime Minister Rabuka, Chairman of the Central European Council, said the issue was not discussed yesterday.

This means that Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chiu will remain in office until the COC discusses the matter.
In response to this situation, Fiji Airways has submitted an application to the US Department of Transportation to open a new direct flight route between Nadi and Dallas, Texas, USA.
The airline intends to launch the route as soon as it receives permission.
The application is supported by the purchase of a new 334-seat Airbus A350-900 aircraft, aimed at enhancing its route network and connectivity options.
This is clearly in line with the airline’s commitment to expand its presence in the US market and complements existing Los Angeles and San Francisco routes.
The program provides new travel options for prospective tourists and enhances connectivity to key destinations.
So, as we await the results of this latest initiative, we are encouraged by the boundless opportunities it offers our nation.
