Today, Monday, representatives of the Ministry of National Economy, the private sector and UN agencies discussed the mechanism for the participation of the private sector in its UN tender for the provision of relief and assistance to the people of the Gaza Strip.
The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Economy in Ramallah, aimed to brief the private sector on the mechanism followed by United Nations agencies when issuing tenders, which is about to be implemented with the aim of coordinating all aspects of the partnership between the Government, the private sector and these agencies in the provision of humanitarian assistance.
Economy Minister Mohammad Amr, after reviewing the government’s work agenda and plans, said that the participation of the private sector in the bid is based on relief and the provision of humanitarian aid to achieve our strategic goals of providing relief to our country and the people of the Gaza Strip, and to bring economic benefits to the economy.
Representatives of UN agencies affirmed the UN’s commitment to its responsibilities to the people of the Gaza Strip and raised the need and importance of everyone working together to implement the required interventions.
They noted that the work in the Gaza Strip was based on the fact that Palestine was a single geographical unit, of which the Gaza Strip was an integral part, and therefore the intervention was carried out in full coordination with the Palestinian Government.
Agency representatives said that the UN programme in the Gaza Strip is based on relief, early recovery and reconstruction, which are intertwined and the nature of the work in each phase is arranged, with the first phase being procurement, the second phase being mixed with procurement and contracts, and the reconstruction phase being the implementation of large-scale projects.
They stressed the importance of the Conference in building a common basis for understanding, planning and partnership building in accordance with UN law and procedures to achieve more efficient and equitable goals.
They noted that the coordination of local and international assistance focused on basic areas such as health, food, water and housing, and that assistance was provided to hospitals through coordinated channels in terms of admissions and supplies based on identified priorities.
