The annual accounts of Energy of Suriname (EBS) for 2019 and 2020 were approved by the General Meeting of Shareholders on Tuesday. The management and the Supervisory Board have agreed with shareholder representative, President Chan Santokhi, to clear the accumulated backlog of orders within the time frame of the end of 2025.

During the meeting chaired by the President, the accountants were consulted on the established timetable. They outlined the approved annual accounts and the challenges identified. The Suriname Communications Agency reported that the reasons for the backlog were also investigated. It was agreed that both parties will make every effort to send the annual accounts reports on time and that each report will give the accountants about three months to finally catch up with the backlog for 2021 to 2024.

The two sides further exchanged views on the current issues and reached an agreement with Chief Technology Officer Marcel Eindhoven. The agreement has been approved by the Council of Ministers. Eindhoven will continue to serve as EBS Technical Director for a few months, but it has been decided that an official will work with Eindhoven so that the succession work can proceed smoothly.

Various pain points between the management and the Supervisory Board were discussed. Existing wrinkles were ironed out in the presence of the President. EBS management also presented shareholders with the book “Corporate Strategy 2022-2030”. The book lays out the company’s strategic plan until 2030.
