On Saturday evening, a mixed team from the Surinamese DOKPS department arrested a 63-year-old Dutch-Surinamese man for violating firearms laws.

The arrests were made during a vehicle check at the Vierkinderen plantation in the Republic of Para district following reports of shootings near the river earlier in the evening when children were in the area.

According to the information obtained, the gunman is believed to be driving a brown Nissan Murano car and is still in the area. Surinamese police received a tip-off that the car was traveling along Ferdinand Pierlauweg. Subsequently, the police found the vehicle and arrested the driver.

When the police searched the car, they found a pistol, a revolver, 14 rounds of 0.38 calibre live ammunition and three shell casings. The suspect was identified as IH, a Dutch Surinamese, and the seized weapons and ammunition have been handed over to the Zanderij Police Department for further investigation.

Police are continuing to investigate the case to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
