Arthur’s family waited for three years for a miracle, that one day he would appear from somewhere… He was thought to be missing in the war in 2020, but the miracle never happened.
Arthur turns 24 today, but he will always be 20.
MediaHub recalls an interview with his brother.

“Our family has been waiting for my brother Artur for three consecutive years, he was considered missing since 2020. At first, one of his friends said that they hit the position with Bayraktar and he was injured, after which he did not see Artur, and he also thought that if they did not take him from the position to the hospital, then he was dead”, Tigran told about his brother Artur Hayrapetyan in a conversation with MediaHub.
On September 27, Azerbaijan launched a large-scale war against Artsakh, using its arsenal to its full potential, while Arthur, as a conscript, was serving in the Hadrut military unit. After fierce fighting and the capture of Hadrut, the Armenian army retreated and reached Martuni. According to Tigran, his brother was killed on the “Kamal” mountain in Martuni.
“Every day after the ceasefire, we were waiting for a miracle, something would appear somewhere, the search operation had begun, but there was no news about him. The days that passed, the slimmer the hope of his survival. We thought he was a prisoner. For this, we used the potential of all our relatives living abroad: officials, businessmen, military personnel, in short, anyone who could get exact information from Baku. Before we received the information, the DNA response came, the identification matched, to the RA Martuni morgue. We came, they said “there was a mistake, your son’s body is not here”, they apologized, and we returned to Stepanakert. A few days later, we received a reply that my brother is in Baku prison, he was captured,” said Tigran.
According to our interlocutors, the conflicting information and waiting were even more severe, especially for the mother. During the siege of Artsakh, the DNA Research Center called again and assured them that they were wrong last time, but this time it was clear. The remains of Artur Hayrapetyan had been identified.
“We could not come, because the roads were closed. When we moved to Armenia in September, the first thing we did was to send a DNA test of Arthur to a leading research center in Moscow. In October, they said the answer was 99.9%, the remains had been identified. In fact, this is the same body that they said “it’s yours” two years ago, and then apologized or said it was a mistake. In other words, we waited for 3 years because of their inactivity. Anyway, we buried my brother in the “Yerablur” military pantheon. My mother waited for three years for a miracle, her expectations were not fulfilled. Since 2020, the accumulated pain has doubled. Now we are relieved that at least Arthur’s body reached us late, and the grave did not remain in Artsakh, otherwise we would have gone crazy. At least here we went to “Yerablur” and returned home with a little relief,” said our interlocutor.
The Hayrapetyan family in Stepanakert had three boys growing up. After the 44-day war, the longing for their family did not disappear, nor did the pain of Arthur’s death. Tigran was sure that a new Arthur would be born in their family.
Artur Hayrapetyan lived only 20 years, but the heroic deeds of him and his comrades will still be remembered. They could have left their positions and retreated to save themselves, but they chose to die voluntarily.
