His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, accompanied by Mohammed bin Hadi Al Husseini, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, visited the affiliated “London Gateway Port” logistics complex in partnership with Dubai Ports World Group “DB World”, located at the mouth of the Thames.
His Highness was received by Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, and Rashid Abdullah, Executive Director and Managing Director of DP World Europe, who briefed him in detail on the functionality of the berth (No. 1. 4) whose development was recently completed as the ‘London Gateway’ was considered as part of the Thames Freeport.

His Highness added: “Our relationship with the UK is long-standing and has expanded extensively in terms of business and logistics. Dubai Ports currently has 34 locations in the UK with 6,000 employees, a number that will increase to 12,000 upon completion of the logistics complex at London Gateway. Our goal is to strengthen and deepen economic cooperation with the United States in the future.”
The largest seaport
London Gateway will be the UK’s largest seaport, handling 55% of the cargo in the south-east of England, and the complex is strategically located just 28 miles from central London, thanks to modern rail services.
Port complex
The port and logistics services complex is currently considered the largest in continental Europe, covering an area of 9.5 million square feet, with a port throughput of approximately 2.4 million containers, and terminal throughput is expected to increase by approximately 1 million containers. 4) Opening later this month, the new expansion will bring the total length of the quay to 1,680 meters.

His Royal Highness also reviewed future plans for Berths 5, 6 and 7, and the additional logistics capacity required for the UK market from 2027.
London Gateway is a deepwater seaport with an integrated logistics complex including four berths and commercial connection capabilities with 130 ports and 27 weekly services.

Preparing for the fourth platform
The completion of the expansion and the next step of equipping the new fourth berth at London Gateway is a clear confirmation of DP World’s commitment to maximise investment and modernisation in its operating areas. The construction of the new terminal will create 1,000 new jobs, while London Gateway’s rapidly developing logistics complex will employ 12,000 people when fully completed. This investment is an important catalyst for modernising an area of particular focus for the UK Government. DP World employs over 6,000 people in the UK, with 34 operating bases.
