The private plane carrying Faissal Taghi landed in the Netherlands at around 10 pm on Friday. The prosecutor confirmed that the extradition was made possible thanks to a treaty signed with the United Arab Emirates in 2023. The eldest son of Ridouan Taghi is currently detained in an undisclosed location. The young man was extradited along with another suspect, a 46-year-old man wanted by Dutch authorities for international drug trafficking since February 2022 and arrested in Abu Dhabi last November. The two defendants will appear before a judge next week, who will decide whether they will continue to be detained.
Faisal Taghi is accused of belonging to a criminal organization involved in large-scale drug trafficking, money laundering and organized crime. He was arrested in Dubai at the end of July 2023 and remained in custody until his extradition on Friday. He was one of the first Dutch suspects to be formally extradited from Dubai. The Dutch judiciary suspected that Ridouan Taghi’s eldest son took over the Moroccan mafia after his father’s arrest in 2019. This suspicion was confirmed in 2021 when police discovered that Ridouan Taghi was still able to contact the outside world after his release from prison.

Conversations between the Mokro mafia leader and his nephew and lawyer Yusuf Taji were intercepted by the police. In these messages, Riduan gave instructions to Faisal, whom he called a “genius”, to develop a prison break plan and involved money laundering and drug trafficking. According to investigators, Riduan’s eldest son is the second-in-command of the Dutch Mokro mafia. “He is still partially protected by his father, who arranged for him to lead the organization and organize operations in various aspects,” the investigators noted.
According to Italian security sources, Faisal was in regular contact with his father’s friend, Italian mafia boss Raffaele Imperiale, involved in the trafficking of €2.5 million worth of drugs from Italy to the Netherlands. In Dubai, Imperiale and Ridouan were said to be members of the “Super Cartel”, a drug syndicate that controls a third of cocaine trafficking in Europe. Imperiale was arrested in 2021 and extradited to Italy. He could have reached a deal with his country’s judicial system and provided valuable information in exchange for a reduced sentence. He might have revealed his collaboration with Ridouan Taghi and his son.
