The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld the decision made by the Court of First Instance, sentencing an African to five years in prison and a fine of Dh3 million and Dh154,000, and deportation upon completion of his sentence. The court ordered the seizure and confiscation of electronic devices used in the crime and the deletion of electronic information and data related to the crime, and convicted him of the fine amount for collecting an Arab girl after identifying her through an electronic website that specializes in dating and marriage apps.

The case file states that the accused had successfully deceived the girl over a period of six years and told her that he was of her nationality and was doing a prestigious job in a marine field and that he had not paid the amount owed to him as his account was frozen.

He also played the role of judge again on her virtual lover, contacted the victim through the “WhatsApp” application and demanded more money from her to repay her lover’s debt and save him from further imprisonment, and threatened to arrest her if she did not send him what he demanded through another person’s bank account.
