Swire Shipping Fiji’s Drua were beaten 36-5 by the Auckland Blues in the third Super Rugby Pacific quarter-final at Eden Park tonight.
The Drua team struggled to contend with the dominant Blues from the start and took control of the game.
At the start of the game, Blues winger Dalton Papalli scored the first goal in the 9th minute and then successfully added a goal, setting the tone for the rest of the game.
The Drua defence was tested early in the game and after the TMO had confirmed it, Finlay Christie scored again in the 18th minute to extend the Blues lead to 14-0.
In the 23rd minute, Harry Plummer further extended the lead with a penalty kick, making the score 17-0.
Caleb Clarke added another try before half time and although he failed to convert, the score was still 22-0 at half time.
In the second half, Selestino Ravutaumada tried to score but failed, which gave the Drua team a glimmer of hope.
However, in 52nd Minutes later, Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula missed a penalty kick to put the Drua team at a clear disadvantage.
The Blues continued their momentum with two more touchdowns from Kurt Eklund and Caleb Clarke, both scored by Plummer, and the game ended 36-5.
The Drua’s tournament run came to an end as they were unable to overcome the mighty Blues.
