Drinking water supply will be disrupted in parts of Thimphu on the 25th as heavy rains destroyed water tanks between Rdo Gdanna and Tarab.
Drinking water was distributed as water tanks were destroyed at Dyangchenphug Secondary School, National Insurance Company residential complex and Changzamtog area in parts of Thimphu.
The biggest drinking water problem is in Glangrgyug Pharkha, Dyangchenphug High School and Changji, it will be in G area but other areas will also be affected.
The Thimphu Municipal Corporation will distribute drinking water through water tankers during the repair of drinking water pipelines.”
Water pipes within 1.25 km of the road were damaged.
Repairing the pipeline will take more than two weeks because there are no roads at the site to transport goods, the township said, according to a media release.
Residents in the area expressed dissatisfaction with the town government’s announcement, demanding that the work be completed as soon as possible and requiring more effective management of the quality of the environment.
This is the third time that Thimphu residents are facing this problem due to monsoon rains.
In July, floods destroyed the Lhamgang reservoir in South Thimphu, Changbangbru, Lungtenphu, Olkha and Barbisa.
Residents of South Thimphu have been without drinking water for two weeks after repairs to the water tanks were halted by incessant rains.
The township’s water supply system in Deqingqulin and Gedangglas has been completed after a landslide and flood destroyed a water tank in Deqingqulin area.
Landslides and floods destroyed water tanks and blocked roads in the country. On July 15, 2013, Bumthang Lama Temple was damaged by floods. On August 10, Gurulakhang Temple in Bodgarh was affected by floods. On August 18, 2013, rains in Thimphu, Paro and Sigirdargaon districts caused damage in Siganteng district.
