Republican Congressman Tom Keen said: “The threats made by the Georgian Dream leader are well suited to a ruthless dictator, not a close partner of the United States.”
Keane spoke about Ivanishvili’s April 29 speech while reporting on Georgia in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“Finally, I want to note that there is also great hope for Georgia and Moldova this October,” Keen said, speaking of the importance of the upcoming elections.
Many Georgian citizens have courageously and peacefully taken to the streets to protest harmful government actions. Unfortunately, they have been met with violence and arrests.
While discussions on the “foreign agents” bill were ongoing, the leader of the “Georgian Dream” threatened in a speech “harsh retaliation” against his political opponents, which is very suitable for a ruthless dictator, not a close partner of the United States.
I look forward to seeing how the Georgian people will react to such actions by their Government in the crucial parliamentary elections in October.
Finally, I want to mention that Georgia and Moldova are hopeful this October. “I believe that the vast majority of citizens in both countries look forward to closer relations with the United States and do not want their countries to once again bend to the will of the Kremlin,” Keen said.
