Tegucigalpa – Doctor and assistant Carlos Umana This Sunday, he questioned the lack of speed of government authorities in managing the dengue emergency in the country.
He said the ministry had intervened but not in the way it would have liked to respond to the health emergency.
“I would have thought they would be more aggressive in specific emergency situations, but to be honest, I don’t see a lot of agility, especially in terms of interventions at the adult stage of the mosquito, i.e. fumigation,” he declared on American radio.
Umanya lamented that dengue fever has not been alleviated in the country and cases continue to increase nationwide.
He noted that surprisingly, this time around, cities do not seem to have the upper hand as in the last outbreak recorded in 2019.
Medical professionals revealed that there are enough cases in the towns of Santa Rosa de Copán in the Intibuca department in the central region, as well as Zambrano and Sabana Grande near Tegucigalpa.
As for the northern region, Umaña said the Honduran Social Security Institute (IHSS) in San Pedro Sula has an average of 20 to 30 hospitalized patients per day.
However, he said rooms at the Social Security Institute and the Teaching Hospital in Tegucigalpa had collapsed.
He therefore called on the public to cooperate in eradicating the breeding grounds and called on the Ministry of Health to be more proactive in managing the emergency situation so that dengue fever does not continue to claim lives, especially when the rains arrive. silver
