PEDERNALES – The Army’s chief of staff, Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, visited with his own and Haitian border troops to monitor the readiness of the soldiers at the various posts and units and to send a message of firmness and determination.
The border area has so far remained calm under close surveillance by the army, Cesfront and intelligence agencies.
The army high command, when asked about Pedernales’s trip, said its purpose was to obtain intelligence on soldiers and officers at different posts and units located in the border belt of the southern region.
Iván Perez stressed that the situation in Haiti requires the entire security sector to be aware of the situation along the border.
“The Dominican Republic Army is responsible for the supervision and protection of the border, and there is no doubt that the Army’s effectiveness and maneuverability have never been seen in the past 30 years,” the commander said.
He said his visit to the Pedernales border zone was to send a message to keep a close eye on the border zone, in the interest of Defense Secretary Maj. Gen. Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, and so that they could remain firm and make decisions with the support of the highest levels of the military and the Ministry of Defense.
The Army commander was accompanied by Army Brigadier General Núñez Veloz, Command Chief Inspector and Airmen Public Relations Officer Lt. Col. Jonathan Ruben Martinez, and was received in Pedernales by Lt. Col. Jose Alexandre Ogando Montero, commander of the Army’s 16th Infantry Battalion
