University of the West Indies Regional Headquarters, Jamaica, Wisconsin. Wednesday, May 22, 2024 —Dr. Camille Samuel has been appointed Dean of the University of the West Indies’ Five Islands campus in Antigua and Barbuda. With a distinguished background in both academic and business administration, Dr. Samuel is a well-known figure in the global higher education management community and will bring a wealth of experience and dynamic leadership to her new position at the fourth campus of the University of the West Indies. Dr. Samuel is currently Deputy Dean of the University of the West Indies’ St. Augustine campus and her appointment to the Five Islands campus will take effect on August 1.^{English Stone}2024.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Samuel holds an interdisciplinary PhD in Corporate Transformation and Gender Leadership from the University of the West Indies, an MBA in Corporate Strategy and Economic Policy from Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands, and a BA in Sociology and Management from the University of the West Indies. Her academic journey has been marked by a commitment to excellence, which is reflected in her wide-ranging research interests and public speaking, which span the fields of entrepreneurship support, crisis management, educational leadership, and IT governance, enriched with insights on artificial BroadCast Unitedligence and technology.

Dr Samuel’s influence extends beyond academia, as she has served in multiple roles as an adjunct faculty member at the Department of Surveying, Engineering and Land Management at the University of the West Indies since 2005, and as a consultant and academic advisor to the University of the West Indies and the Arthur Lockejack Global Business School since 2003. Her commitment to promoting development and innovation in the field of education is evidenced by her significant contributions in business interventions, executive education, and the mentoring and academic supervision of PhD and Masters students.

Additionally, Dr. Samuel’s influence reverberates on the international stage, where she is an active member of various committees and professional associations. Since 2016, Dr. Samuel has served as the Chair of the Ellucian-Latin America and Caribbean User Group and is a member of the Evisions Strategic Thought Leadership Council. Her commitment to social progress is further reflected in her involvement with advocacy organizations such as the Coalition Against Domestic Violence, where she continues to serve as Chair, demonstrating her deep dedication to social justice and equality. In addition to her work in higher education technology and as a human development activist, Dr. Samuel supports the work of her credit union board, TGG Credit Union.

Dr. Samuel will work directly with Vice-Chancellor and Campus President Professor Justin Robinson, who expressed his confidence in her ability to advance the University’s vision and mission and the campus’ work agenda. “I look forward to welcoming Dr. Samuel to the Five Islands Campus as we continue our mission to provide access to residents and citizens of Antigua and Barbuda and the wider OECS, while implementing the University of the West Indies’ strategic plan.”
