SANTO DOMINGO – The National Weather Service (Onamet) has announced that this Sunday there will be heavy downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, due to the passage of a low pressure trough.
The worst-affected departments include Hato Mayor, El Ceibo, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Samana, La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, Peravia, Barahona, Pedernales, San Cristóbal and Greater Santo Domingo.
In the afternoon, showers will extend to Puerto Plata, Valverde, España, Santiago, La Vega, Don Nuel, Dahabón, Santiago Rodriguez, San Juan, Elias Pinha, Montecristi and surrounding areas.
Onamete maintains a weather alert level due to the possibility of flooding in rivers, streams and canyons as well as flooding and landslides.
