Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton told PragerU CEO Marissa Strait that women don’t need to put off having children in order to focus on their careers, adding that it has made her “braver” and “better at fighting for what she wants”.
“When you have a child, your heart opens up as only a child can.” Heaton Tell Streeter added: “It’s made me a more aggressive person – better at fighting for what I want.”

Heaton also talked about how motherhood has made her a better actor:
In my opinion, you never have to give up (having kids) for your career, and later on when we got married and had kids, I found that it actually improved the way you focus on your career because you know you have a solid relationship at home and you have someone who has your back no matter what happens in show business. So that actually brings you stability and comfort, and then when you have kids, it opens up a room inside of you that only kids can open up.
It also gives you another emotion to bring to the performance, to let you go in and you become more vulnerable because now your mind is outside of your body. So you become more vulnerable because you are responsible for them, and that vulnerability is good for the performance, it allows you to have more fear, it allows you to have more joy, everything becomes more profound.
“It’s made me more assertive about what I want, not just for myself, but for my kids,” Heaton added. “I’m better at fighting for what I want — when I talk to actors, especially when I talk to Christian actors, I say, ‘Don’t put off your life. Don’t put off relationships.’”
Asked if she’s ever had the experience of playing a character whose actions “go strongly against your values,” Heaton said, “I was offered a show and I went to the showrunner and I said, ‘I just need to tell you that I’m pro-life, so I’m not going to do something pro-choice unless it’s balanced with a pro-life view.'”
“She said, ‘We’re not going to do anything about abortion. There’s nothing funny about abortion.’ And I said, ‘Well, I just want you to know,'” Heaton explained. “From that point on, I took on these long-running shows, and God has been very gracious to me to take on shows that have never touched on those areas.”
The actress also pointed out Everybody Loves Raymond Featuring a Catholic family, one episode features “Deborah has a sister who’s going to be a nun” and Ray’s father “asks Ray why he doesn’t go to Mass.”
“It’s a very important series and the response has been fantastic,” Heaton said. middle “Going to church, it’s just part of their lives. It’s not emphasized, it’s not ignored. Sometimes we go to church.”
