Former President Donald Trump leads in a four-way race in Iowa against President Joe Biden and others by 18 percentage points, according to one survey. Des Moines Register/Mediacom/Selzer & Co. polled after his conviction in the New York business records trial.

The poll also found that less than a third of Iowa adults approve of Biden’s performance as president. Just 28% give him a positive rating — down one point from February — while 67% disapprove. Five percent have no opinion.

Young Iowans, in particular, are very cold toward Biden.

“Only 15% of respondents under 35 approved of Biden’s job performance, while 76% disapproved.” Des Moines Register Chief Political Reporter Brianne Pfannenstiel noted: “That’s slightly worse than in February, when 21% approved and 76% disapproved.”

Most independents in the Hawkeye State also view the president unfavorably. Less than a quarter of respondents (24%) give him a positive rating, while 69% give him an unfavorable rating.

The poll sampled 806 Iowa adults, including 632 likely voters, between June 9 and 14, 2024. The margin of error for the adult sample is ± 3.5% and for the likely voter sample is ± 3.9%.

Biden has also suffered major problems with his approval ratings nationwide.
