The Michelin Guide, a super popular platform with more than 3.2 million followers on Instagram alone, has just published a video dedicated to Kvarner shrimp. The protagonist of this video is Bruno Vunić, a fisherman from Mošćenička Draga, a well-known contact for top specimens of this treasure of our sea. He is also the father of Stiven Vunić, chef and owner of the Zijavica tavern and one of the best chefs of our young generation.

Last year, he and his wife Teo, who runs the tavern with him, won the title of the best creative city gastronomy restaurant in Croatia in the Dobrih restaurant selection, as well as the recently announced Michelin restaurants and recommendations, among which Zijavica has not been overlooked. What would it be like if only fresh fish, crab and seafood were prepared for guests in this special place in Kvarner? That is, Zijavica tavern is a place you want to go, because they show year after year the effort, skill and freshness of the mentioned ingredients, which is not visible anywhere else. In addition, their cuisine is interesting, intriguing, full of surprises and fun.

Our elders would say that it all comes from the house and Stiven Vunić has the best example of this in his house. His father, also recognized by the Michelin Guide, is a first-class fisherman who has been catching shrimp for more than forty years and we agree that his father is the interviewer’s best choice regarding Kvarner shrimp, a premium food that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

As he explains in a video for the famous food guide, Kvarner shrimp are special for several reasons.

“Kvarner is a perfect habitat for shrimp. We have top-notch delicacies. In the past, the ideal time for shrimp fishing was April and May, but with climate change, the season has moved to June and July,” Vunić stressed.

If you’re wondering why our Kvarner shrimp are better than Norwegian shrimp, even though they are from the same family, he explains: “Our shrimp have a more special and more delicious taste because their habitat is 60 meters deep.”

Therefore, the shrimp merchant believes that “we should get a special declaration for Kvarner shrimp so that when we sell it we will be able to present ourselves and be able to emphasize that it is Kvarner shrimp that certain restaurants offer”.
