Sharjah’s Al-Thiqa Disabled Club continues to showcase its community cultural and sports programmes as part of its summer activities programme “Our Holidays Are Not”, which is now in its third week under the theme “National Identity”. It is hosted by the Sharjah Sports Council and will run until August 1.
The third week of the summer programme will see an Arabic calligraphy workshop organised. In addition to presenting historical and cultural stories of the UAE’s achievements, the programme also includes workshops in partnership with the Falconry Club, an exhibition of popular food items, and a fashion show in traditional Emirati costumes, as well as traditional competitions and games, all aimed at strengthening the Emirati national identity among members.
Kaltham Obaid, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Thiqa Club, confirmed that the club management is keen to make this year’s summer activities distinctive, not just activities to while away leisure time, but purposeful activities that contribute to the complete club atmosphere. She added that these activities contribute to the needs of the spiritual, physical and social organs of the club, which contribute to the building of positive personalities capable of assuming responsibilities and effective social participation.
“The main goal of these events is to achieve social inclusion of disabled club members through joint activities with their non-disabled peers, thereby strengthening social ties and encouraging mutual understanding and respect. Thanks to the Sharjah Sports Council’s continued support, these are valuable initiatives to strengthen national identity and support people with disabilities in Sharjah,” said Kalsam Obeid.
Al-Thiqa Club continues to offer various programmes aimed at the holistic development of its members and emphasises their commitment to continue this approach to enhance the sense of belonging and national identity of all members.
