Series of steps
The Director General of the Arab Centre for Arid Zones and Drylands, His Excellency Dr. Nasr al-Din Obeid, met with Mr. Tony Atel, Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), at the Organization’s headquarters in Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic, to discuss and initiate various aspects of cooperation between the two organizations.
During the meeting, Dr. Obeid provided a comprehensive overview of the scientific, technical and research activities, projects and programs being carried out by the Arab Center for Drought Research in Arab countries and in the Syrian Arab Republic, where the headquarters is located. The two sides also presented the cooperation between the two countries, focusing on advancing the strengthening of joint work, especially in the fields of rainwater harvesting, land and plant resources, capacity building, development and advancement of the agricultural sector for sustainable development, and the need to benefit from all the expertise and capabilities available in both organizations in order to serve the realization of Arab food and water security.
Mr. Al-Attal expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Director General of ACSAD and its staff for their efforts, stressing:
FAO attaches great importance to leveraging the expertise of ACSAD in various fields to increase activities, initiate various collaborations and implement development and field projects to promote the science, research and agricultural sectors.
