Caledonian voters voted overwhelmingly for the second round of legislative elections. The elections took place without incident across the country, despite a yellow alert for strong winds. The NC la 1ère then announced the results of the elections for the representative candidates in the two constituencies of New Caledonia.

What you need to know about the second round of legislative elections in New Caledonia on Sunday, July 7, 2024:

  • A total of 222,114 voters were called to vote across the country.
  • Caledonian voters turned out in large numbers this Sunday, with a participation rate of 42.91 per cent as of 12pm.
  • In the first constituency, Nicholas Metzdorf (Royalists and Assembly Party) is against Omaira Nesselin (Independence Party and Nationalists).
  • In the second constituency, Emmanuel Tjibaou (independent and nationalist) faces Alcide Ponga (royalist and assembly party).

    In France, French people go to the polls this Sunday in the second round of legislative elections, a historic election in which the National Rally may emerge victorious, but there is great uncertainty about whether it can gain an absolute majority in parliament and form a government.

    Mobilization in France is still expected to remain strong, with participation expected to reach 66.7% of the first round, a level unheard of since its disbandment in 1997.
