The commercial value is US$4542 and the auction price is US$13,000. Yesterday, the first car auctioned by the General Directorate for Registration, Control and Management of Seized Assets in Cochabamba (Dircabi) was a Toyota Hilux truck, model 1994.
The auction of public vehicles began on Monday. According to the schedule, the event will continue today and tomorrow if necessary. Ademar Valda, manager of the Dircabi area in Cochabamba, said their goal is to raise at least $205,000.
The tender was held in the morning and afternoon at the Ex Cordeco Government Planning Auditorium in front of Plaza San Sebastian.
Among the vehicle catalogues in Cochabamba there are vans, jeeps, cars, cargo vans, minibuses, trucks and tractor trailers.
Valda reports that there are 34 vehicles available. They expect the collection to bring in more than $205,000.
“We hope, perhaps, to double this number, for the benefit of the fight against drug trafficking and, obviously, also for the benefit of the people, because when you buy these motor vehicles, the price will undoubtedly be lower than the commercial price. It will allow you to have it for personal use.”
A total of 6,500 people visited between July 15 and 19.
On the website https://dircabi.mingobierno.gob.bo/ all the vehicles are shown with photos, information on their characteristics, reference prices and even debts. Prices range from $797 to more than $36,000.
Hundreds of bidders arrived early yesterday.
Considering that there are no bank transfers or QR codes, interested parties, in addition to showing their ID card, pay 10% of the reference price of the vehicle in cash. This money is immediately returned to those who did not win the motor vehicle they were interested in.
The auction started at 10:00 AM. The first car had 50 bidders. Each was assigned a numbered palette. The notary exposed the photos and features of each car; bids went up from $200 to $200.
The truck had a reference price of $4,542 and sold at auction for $13,000.
The winning bidder was Leonel Llanos, whose palette was number 12. He said it was his first time participating in an auction.
“In particular, I do this to maintain the value of my money. We are experiencing such a devastating economy against the dollar that I see my Boliviano depreciating. So when I see that they are receiving the official exchange rate, it encourages me most to invest in it as an asset.”
Calculations are made in US dollars or in Bolivian boliviano equivalent according to the official exchange rate.

Once an interested party wins or bids in an open tender, he or she must bear costs such as tax debts based on his or her declaration, in addition to traffic violations and transfer rights.
In the case of the truck, it owed 5,800 bolivianos in taxes, and 230 bolivianos for the technical inspection of the vehicle (ITV).
Lanos believes that the vehicle’s grant cost is similar to the market price.
“It’s at market value, and I’m not making any money on it. It’s not about doing business; it’s just about maintaining the value of the currency, that’s all.”
Varda clarified that there were no virtual auctions.
“We’ve seen some pages posting virtual auctions, which is definitely intended to influence people’s integrity. That doesn’t exist, everything is in person.”
Another batch of vehicles will be auctioned today.
If all the vehicles have not been auctioned off, additional events will be held this Wednesday, “with small discounts” to encourage acquisitions.
According to the schedule, today (July 23) the auction will be held from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 2:30 pm to the end.
The accused, government officials, and their second-degree blood relatives or second-degree relatives are not allowed to participate.
