Kosovo Foreign Minister Donica Zvara Schwarz announced that the ministry had submitted an official protest note to the North Macedonian authorities. The document assessed the search of President Osmani’s phone as “inappropriate and illegal handling by airport security.”
Authorities in Pristina explained that Macedonia’s security services had taken President Osmani’s personal wallet. Despite opposition, the presidential team agreed to let her enter the airport. However, the president’s security guards did not agree to hand over his personal mobile phone.
Skopje Airport and the Macedonian Interior Ministry admitted that the order to check the president’s phone came from the ministry. In response to protests from Pristina, Skopje authorities assured that an investigation had been launched into the matter.

The Office of the President of Kosovo recalled that, in accordance with international practice and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the Head of State is protected by diplomatic privileges and immunities.
The Kosovo presidency described the incident as “shameful”, arguing that it was unthinkable for anyone to imagine there was anything suspicious in the president’s wallet.
