The General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transport Safety (DIGESETT) reported that it will continue to carry out operations to curb the inappropriate use of emergency equipment such as sirens, lights and speakers used in civilian vehicles in order to ensure safety on the roads and avoid dangerous situations on public roads.
The actions were carried out in accordance with articles 228 and 229 of Law 63-17, which prohibit the use of whistles, sirens and horns in civilian vehicles and the use of rotating lights known as flashers.
The entity also reported that agencies have the authority to monitor drivers and keep devices that are illegal on civilian vehicles because they are specifically intended for emergency vehicles.

“Citizens must understand that this equipment is essential to save lives in emergency situations. Therefore, they cannot be used in civilian vehicles in an irresponsible manner,” said General Francisco Osoria De La Cruz, director of DIGESETT.
General Osoria called on citizens to cooperate in complying with this measure and respect the use of emergency equipment by authorized vehicles only. “We will continue these operations and sanction all drivers who do not comply with traffic laws.
