“Venezuela is facing internal interference by oligarchic groups whose aim is to overthrow the legitimate Venezuelan government, so we must act in accordance with international law,” said Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel during his speech at the 11th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Alba-TPC.
Díaz-Canel reiterated his recognition of the Venezuelan government and expressed solidarity with the first national leader, while noting that the responsibility for resolving the situation lies with Venezuelans.
“At this moment, awareness and solidarity call us again more,” he said, while saying that the unified project represented by ALBA-TPC is in serious danger.
Díaz-Canel said the statement of solidarity of “Our America” to Venezuela, the undisputed leader of the region’s independence and its liberal movement, was of great value.
“Today it faces a crude and coordinated smear campaign aimed at covering up another coup attempt,” he said, describing as “uncivilized, violent and fascist positions” adopted by a section of the opposition, which had previously announced it would not accept the results of the July 28 presidential election.
“In fact, at the end of the vote, a new stage of all failed attempts to overthrow the legitimate government is about to begin, with a combination of internal violence and foreign interference,” he stressed.
Therefore, he said, accepting these facts would invalidate the electoral system. “The parties cannot be arbitrators,” he said.
High democratic awareness
Díaz-Canel believes that President Maduro has shown a high level of democratic awareness by responding to “provocations” by accepting the support of popular organizations and making a controversial call to the Interim Judicial Council Electoral Commission.
To this end, he said that with the ruling “a few hours ago”, President Maduro’s victory in the last election on July 28 was confirmed. “
However, he noted, “As expected, the same extremists ignored the official results and defied the Supreme Court’s order, immediately unleashing their weapons of deception.”
They advocate parallel structures
Díaz-Canel believes there is a “biased media” that serves the empire and suppresses real events that are clearly happening in Venezuela.
“This is not the first time that the US empire and regional and international oligarchs have shown their rejection and contempt for the will of the people. This is not the first time that they have tried to block political processes that are contrary to their interests, because these processes are conducive to the well-being of the people and the defense of national assets,” he added.
It is impossible to remain indifferent in the face of this situation, he continued, because “regional oligarchs have united against Venezuela (…) with imperialism, the media and digital platforms, trying to depose Venezuela from power”. The State established in the Venezuelan Constitution will be replaced by parallel structures, of dubious origin, but considered legitimate, “he stressed.
He explained that many people from outside were trying to delegitimize genuine popular movements without evidence.
Venezuela conflict resolved
The Cuban president explained that Venezuela is resolving a conflict between apparently competing worldviews.
“On the one hand, our vision of liberation defends the future and social justice for the benefit of all, on the other hand, the interests of preserving the unjust and hegemonic system that the Bolivarian Revolution dared to confront prevail.”
He stressed that “no hegemonic imperial power will make us back down in maintaining regional peace. This is a cause we will always fight for.”
He concluded by saying that now is “the time for unity and resolute opposition to imperialism, the oligarchy that exploits the slightest opportunity to attack the victory and stability of every people-oriented force.”
