Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Rural Development and Community Housing Mariano Assami Sabino attends the 2024 International Conference of Religious Leaders in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, May 7, 2024. 
In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of this conference “in order to bring together different religions for dialogue and to promote human fraternity, solidarity and diversity”, and stressed the need to “guarantee world peace and stability in order to achieve this goal. Everyone can live freely according to their own beliefs.”
He also stressed that Timor-Leste is the first country in the world to officially adopt the Document on Human Fraternity as a “national document”, which was signed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed el-Tayeb, on February 4, 2019, in Abu Dhabi.
After attending the international conference, the Deputy Prime Minister and his delegation met with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. During the meeting, the ongoing cooperation between Malaysia and Timor-Leste in various fields including agriculture, health, economy, defense, security, etc. was discussed. 
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed his hope to visit Timor-Leste soon to further enhance Malaysia’s role in training human resources in the field of rural development. 
After the hearing, Deputy Prime Minister Mariano Sabino also met with the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Mohamed Ben Abdelkarim Issa, where he expressed Timor-Leste’s commitment to playing an active role in promoting reconciliation, highlighting the country as a model for other countries to follow.
