Rufisque has adopted a Municipal Liquid Sanitation Plan (PALM) worth 3.3 billion francs, starting from Thursday July 18. Le Témoin informed that PALM, initiated and designed by the Rufisque municipal team, will be launched by the deputy mayor, Dr. Oumar Cissé.
It is structured around 3 components including community development and wastewater collection and evacuation infrastructure, secondary and tertiary development and stormwater drainage infrastructure, and a third component focusing on advocacy, communication and training.
Rufisk’s population has grown rapidly (more than 500,000 inhabitants) and its urbanization process, consisting of old and new irregular neighborhoods, can no longer cope with waste and stormwater problems. The existing sanitation infrastructure is clearly inadequate, flooding is frequent, and open channels are constantly invaded by sand, grass and solid waste, becoming the discharge area of the community’s sewer network.
PALM was the subject of a formal presentation by the Deputy Mayor, Polytechnic Engineer on June 29 for funding by the City Council, the public, the State Oversight and City Hall Partners.
