this Representative Karen Medina He announced his resignation from the PP on Thursday after learning about the attack by Congressman Felipe Cruz on the secretary general of the National Renewal Party, Andrea Balladares.

Cruz, a former registered nurse activist who is now an independent, was upset that his former party would not support his candidacy for Recoleta mayor, something the PDG did at the time but announced today that it was withdrawing its support for this candidacy.

“Political violence in all its forms is an act of aggression that undermines the foundations of our democracy,” the lawmakers said in a statement. This is not only an attack on political participation, but also a clear manifestation of violence against women, facts that should never be excused or downplayed. “This type of violence is unacceptable and must be eradicated from our society.”

“The central leadership of the BJP has been showing a tendency to justify these acts of violence against women. This behavior has led to many valuable women committed to Chilean politics being forced to withdraw, not only from the PP, but from politics in general,” the congressman said.

“My commitment is to justice, equality and respect, which is why after deep analysis and reflection, I have decided to resign from the BJP,” the statement said.

“I am convinced that Franco Parisi lacks the experience, education and class necessary to lead with integrity and respect for all citizens. I believe this decision is a necessary step to continue to maintain transparency and prioritize the needs of citizens,” he added.

Regarding the resignation of deputies, the PDG now has no parliamentary representation, the party chairman, Rodrigo Watune, “I don’t know the reason because I never talked to her about her resignation, I found out about it through social networks out of curiosity,” he said. “This is the serious attitude of the representative towards the party.”

“We were so energized that it took 24 hours to make the decision to dump independent candidate Felipe Cruz. That was not the reason she gave. “What he pointed out was a lie,” Watune said.

“In addition, this deputy will not retire now, she has been saying the same thing for months, why? Because he does not represent the party: his votes have no bearing on what the base thinks, and thirdly, because he has not achieved the goals or the platform of the party, it is easier to leave now,” criticized the president of the PDG.
