Next weekend, Radio 1’s County Initiative programme will celebrate Donegal’s cultural identity.
Go inside the county with writer and broadcaster Vincent Woods (main picture) on Sunday August 18 at 10am. County-level measures Uncovering County Donegal’s vibrant arts, history, heritage, sport and diverse communities.

From the admirable volunteer spirit of Árann Mór, to the graceful singing of Gauth Dobhair, to the stunning beauty of Malin Head, Vincent measures up all that Tír Conaill has to offer.
“Donegal – Tyrchonnell – came in like a mist, a ghost,” Woods said.
“You cross some invisible border, and you enter: clear sounds come from the road; the Errigal Mountains gleam before they are visible, the waves of the sea surge, the pull of the beach and dunes presses strongly underfoot, and music and singing echo in the house that never moves.”

this County measures is a landmark series for Radio Ireland exploring the characters and communities of Ireland’s 32 counties.
The series has previously visited counties including Cork, Longford, Sligo and Tyrone.
