Opposition health spokesman and former Nationals MP claimed on Wednesday that a man died in an emergency department waiting room where he had waited for some time despite complaining of chest pains.

Neither Adrian Delia nor Jason Azzopardi revealed the man’s name in their Facebook posts, but other social media users have identified the 55-year-old as Stephen Mangion.

According to Azzopardi, the man was asked to go to the emergency room of Mater Dei Hospital in his private car after seeking help at the Floriana Health Center.

Social media users who claimed to have witnessed the death said the man complained of severe chest pain but was asked to wait.

He fell down dead after people saw him.

Azzopardi claimed the man’s death was manslaughter.

In another post, Delia said he had received several messages about the man’s death.

“I write this carefully, without blaming anyone. I have long said that the state of emergency is dire and cannot meet the needs. And there will be consequences. This is what is happening.”

He urged authorities to work together to find the best solution.

Questions were sent to the Ministry of Health.
