Sociedad Pro Hospital del Niño, Inc. today celebrated the opening of its Children’s Learning Center, marking the start of its celebration of 100 years of continuous dedication to the children of Puerto Rico. The new center will provide specialized therapeutic and educational services for children aged two years to eleven months.
The project, whose construction began last April, aims to serve up to 120 children. In addition, it will create jobs for 40 specialists in fields such as education, child development and communication skills. “Through this project, we will contribute to reducing the outflow of professionals by creating jobs, with a significant impact of 66% in the field of education and child development,” stressed Jacqueline Giannini, director of the center.
The expansion project targets the Children’s Learning Centre (CAN), a specialist educational therapy centre established in 2011. As of June this year, CAN served 54 children aged 2 to 5 years with a diagnosis of autism spectrum (level 1 or 2), sensory issues, learning difficulties, language disorders and social communication disorders.
Thanks to the support provided by collaborators, entities and the people of Puerto Rico through fundraising activities, today the new Children’s Learning Center (CAN) is inaugurated. “The Children’s Learning Center was originally a camp for children with learning difficulties. It was inaugurated in 2011 with an investment of approximately US$ 5.8 million, and today we can start a new school year in our new facility. Our dream of offering an educational alternative that integrates therapeutic services in an effective and confident way for approximately 120 children has come true,” said Ralphie Pagán, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sociedad Pro Hospital del Niño, Inc.
The mission of the Children’s Learning Center is to provide a preschool alternative that effectively integrates therapeutic services and adapts to the needs of each child, and to support their fathers, mothers and caregivers.
