Defense Minister Oboth Oboth pledges government support for NEC-WATU oil filter manufacturing plant

On June 23, 2024, the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Jacob Markson Oboth Oboth, visited the NEC-WATU Oil Filter Manufacturing Plant in the Zhongwu Mbale Industrial Park.

The Minister commended NEC-WATU for setting up the plant, the first of its kind in East Africa, and promised to convey their concerns on taxation and government interference to the relevant departments.

He also congratulated the employees for being part of this historic milestone in Uganda’s automotive industrialisation.

Mr. Liu, General Manager of NEC-WATU, thanked the Minister for his visit and requested the Minister to support the company, especially in terms of tariff protection and policy support.

NEC Deputy Managing Director, Retired Major General Innocent Oula also thanked the Minister and highlighted the company’s contribution to Uganda’s socio-economic development.

He apologized for the absence of MP Matia Kasaja and assured the government of its support.
