The Guinean Professional Football League Standards, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee decided to replay the match on the 24thth day between AS Kaloum and Milo FC in Kankan. The decision, announced yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, July 2, 2024, has received mixed reviews in public opinion. The president of Milo de Kankan Football Club expressed his disappointment in an interview with a Guineematin.com reporter in the county. Moriba Doumbouya condemned the double standards of the affected leagues.
On June 21, an incident occurred during the match between AS Kaloum and Milo FC at the Mission Stadium in Conakry. The match ended after 45 minutes, with Milo leading 1-0, and then a “rejection?” situation occurred. As Milo continued to play, the Guinean Professional Football League (LGFP) imposed sanctions on both teams in addition to deciding to play the second half of this match for security reasons.
Moriba Doumbouya, president of Kankan Milo Football Club, expressed his disappointment with the decision in a press conference. “I have a feeling of disappointment with the federation’s poor decision. I have the impression that this federation did not make the decision it should have, because there are several aspects that show that the rights were not stated. In the decision, there are several points that make us clear our minds. I think we have several examples this year: what happened in Kindia, what happened in Kankan, we ourselves were severely sanctioned; but we accepted the sanctions. But if I see that what happened at the Mission Stadium was worse than what happened in Kankan; but the supporters of AS Kaloum got away with it without any sanctions, they were not deprived of the game, the club was not shut down, they even had the right to come back to support their club, and they were the aggressors, it is sad. Because it proves that there is a certain influence on the league. AS Kaloum is the club of the president of the Guinean Football Federation, and everyone who was present witnessed this day. He left his office in FEGUIFOOT, came to the dressing room and ordered the referee to play the game. But we will not let it happen,” he declared.
In the decision it is mentioned that Milo FC must play the last 45 minutes of the match against AS Kaloum on July 5, before returning to Kankan on July 8 to play against SAG on the 26th and final day of the French Ligue 1. The president of Milo FC finds this schedule exhausting for his players. “They have too much time to judge, but they know that it is too short and that it will have an impact on the bodies of our players. I don’t want to victimize myself, but everything is to slow Milo down. How else is it possible to travel 600 kilometers in three days to play a game and come back in three days to play another game here in Kankan. So we will travel 1,200 kilometers in six days. We are in Guinea, we all know the condition of our roads and the fatigue it brings. But despite these realities, if you see that the federation is imposing this plan on us, then they have an idea in mind. However, we are going to write a letter of protest,” suggested Moriba Doumbouya, the president of Milo FC.
