In the framework of the advocacy campaign aimed at promoting decent work for rural women and employers in Tunisia to improve working and living conditions, and in the context of the Joint Programme for Acceleration of Rural Women’s Economic Empowerment (JP RWEE), UN Women organized on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Baraka Agricultural Complex in Tafea, the first Jendouba training workshop, attended by a delegation from Ain Draham, with the participation of beneficiaries including women in the agricultural sector, employers and representatives of the Women’s Agricultural College in the region.

The seminar was opened by Ms. Nadia Al-Touzari, General Programme Coordinator of UN Women, who stressed the importance of working women and employers leading this awareness-raising campaign and presenting their role and status in the national economy as well as their rights and demands for decent work.

The workshop introduced the fundamental principles of decent work and social and economic rights, focusing on the creation of quality jobs and economic and social empowerment. Participants pointed out the main challenges of traditional agricultural product marketing, access to natural and forest resources in the region, access to information, addressing climate change, lack of organizational and association infrastructure, and bureaucracy. They also expressed the need for support from all sides to improve their working conditions and support the Women’s Agricultural Development Committee by establishing a supervisory structure.

In the same context, the upcoming seminar, which will be held on July 5, 2024 at Dar Al-Shabab, Fez Street, Kairouan, will bring together a new group of participants determined to continue the dialogue on improving the working conditions of rural women and their employers.
